Tainted Mammon is a character added in the Burned Out update for Retribution, and is the Tainted counterpart to UI CoopIcon Mammon.png Mammon. Like all tainted characters, Tainted Mammon has to be unlocked by opening the secret closet in Home.png Home as Mammon, using a Cracked Key.png Cracked Key or Red Key.png Red Key.

Abilities

Cursed Trinkets

  • Tainted Mammon's main gimmick is the presence of Cursed Trinkets.png Cursed Trinkets. Cursed Trinkets have detrimental effects but can be exchanged for coins with a Curse Trader.png Curse Trader.
    • Cursed Trinkets can be distinguished from normal Trinkets by the black smoke they emit.
    • Cursed Trinkets are immediately smelted when picked up.
  • Cursed Trinkets can be found 4 ways:
    • Items in the Treasure Room.png Treasure Room are always replaced with a random Cursed Trinket.
    • Completing a Boss Room.png Boss Room will always drop a Cursed Trinket.
    • Killing the Seven Deadly Sin Mini-Boss Room.png Minibosses will always drop a Cursed Trinket.
    • Enemies may occasionally drop a Cursed Trinket on death.

Notes

  • Only the "main" stage of a Miniboss is guaranteed to drop a Cursed Trinket.
    • Split versions of Envy.png Envy and Super Envy.png Super Envy may still drop Cursed Trinkets, but they must follow the rules of a normal enemy.
  • In order for a Boss Room.png Boss Room to count as completed, at least 1 Boss enemy must be killed in the room.
    • This means that successfully using Eraser.png Eraser on a boss will count as skipping the room rather than completing it.
      • It is technically possible to circumvent this limitation using Vanishing Twin.png Vanishing Twin or Meat Cleaver.png Meat Cleaver by killing one boss before erasing the other.
      • Bosses that consist of multiple enemies such as Gurglings.png Gurglings or Steven.png Steven can also circumvent this.
  • The chance for an enemy to drop a Cursed Trinket is influenced by a number of factors:
    • The maxmimum health of the enemy.
    • The current stage.
    • The average Luck of Tainted Mammons and other players holding Blazing Beak Blazing Beak.
    • The cumulative trinket multiplier of Crow Mask Crow Mask among all players.

Trader Shops

Notes

  • If any player holds Silver Dollar.png Silver Dollar, then Tainted Mammon's post-Depths shops will remain as strong as his normal shops.
    • This trinket must be held while initially entering a stage for it to have any effect.

Miscellaneous Changes

  • Tainted Mammon's Boss Room.png Boss Room items must be purchased for 15 coins, similarly to UI CoopIcon T Keeper.png Tainted Keeper.
    • This does not apply to items in any other type of room like it does for Tainted Keeper.
  • The first time a Tainted Mammon dies each run, so long as it hasn't already been granted Packaged Ham Packaged Ham will be spawned from his corpse.
    • This will only occur if Tainted Mammon is able to revive, or if the current run is a Co-op game.
